Jax’s Musical Background
Jax Turcotte is a Canadian alternative singer-songwriter from Toronto, Ontario. Inspired by the diverse musical repertoire he was raised on and the alternative music of the 2000s, Jax’s music combines vulnerable lyricism with various accompaniment to create works that are unique yet widely interpretable. Jax has been an avid music fan from infancy and sang before he could converse. Yet he did not begin to accompany himself until he was ten years old; starting with the guitar, then piano, then eventually learning to create his own songs. Jax released his first EP “Lance” in 2023 at the age of 16, which was composed of five songs that were written and performed by Jax Turcotte. Jax worked with Roy Hamilton III for the production of his song “Sincerely, Once Beloved” that was released on April 5, 2025, as well as the newly released “Know Me As I Am” EP. Jax has performed across Toronto in renowned venues such as Monarch Tavern, The Painted Lady, Supermarket etc…
Jax’s BJJ Background
Jax Turcotte is a 19 year old, competitive purple belt from Toronto. He has trained and competed under David Thompson at Thompson Jiu Jitsu for eight years, where he has coached for four. He is most renowned for his 2026 IBJJF PAN gold medal and 2026 IBJJF WORLD Championship bronze medal. Overall, he has over fifty wins with 70% coming by way of submission. His style consists of pressure, aggressiveness and clean technique. A strong focus on details, discipline and fun is present when he is competing, training and coaching.
Jax is a dedicated and positive coach. He is a lead kids coach and assistant adult coach. The 1:1 coaching service, as well as his group classes, have guided many youth athletes to medals at competition. His coaching strategy is based on a belief that people do best when they are happy. Furthermore, he is skilled in coaching neurodivergent kids (Autism, ADHD, etc..), reach a diverse range of jiu jitsu goals.
